Obituary of Philip D. Jackson

Philip D. Jackson died peacefully June 25, 2015 at the age of 66. Loving son of Patricia (Stow) and the late Galen D. Jackson of Iowa, formerly of Broomall; precious husband of Virginia (Hoekstra) Jackson of Trooper; devoted father of David J. (Susan) of Wellsboro and Russell D. of Idaho Falls, ID. Grandfather of Silas, Benjamin and Samuel Jackson. Brother of Jay A. (Beth) Jackson of Shoreview, MN. In-law of Virginia C. Hoekstra and Barbara Hoekstra, both of New Holland, PA, and Ruth (Jim) Bosler of Jeffersonville. Uncle of many nieces and nephews in PA and MN. Phil was a graduate of Marple Newtown '67 and the U. of Nebraska '71. He enlisted in the US Army and served in the Reserves. His interests included camping, fishing, canoeing, model railroads, bonsais and helping others. He and Ginny enjoyed visiting Russ and the Tetons in May, and DJ's family in PA. Following thirty years at Penn Mutual Life Ins. Co. as a Sales Analyst, Phil was Director of Facilities at his church. Phil and his sons are Eagle Scouts and Phil served as a troop leader, OA Vigil Honor Member of Unami Lodge One, Silver Beaver Award Recipient, and most recently the Eagle Project Proposal point person for Lafayette District. Phil was an officer in the Patriotic Order Sons of America and a member of its Eagleville Camp. He valued the close friendships he made in these organizations. The week before Phil was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2013, Pastor David Bennett's message was "God's Got This." This simple phrase and the deep, deep meaning behind it gave Phil and his family immense courage and comfort. A memorial service will be held July 11, 2015 at 11:00 AM from The Village Church (Nazarene), 3044 W. Germantown Pike, Fairview Village, PA 19403. Friends and relatives may call starting at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to: the Fairview Village Church, Cradle of Liberty Council-Boy Scouts of America, 1455 Valley Forge Road, Wayne, PA 19087; or International Myeloma Foundation (myeloma.org).
